The Getty Center has evolved into the pentultimate Mass Comm 101 field
trip. MC101s are encouraged to roam all around this world class facility
to complete an assignment that ties together much of what is taught in
the course.
This trip was a bit of a disappointment in that it was cool and overcast, so the outdoor portion of the Getty experience--strolling around the gardens and whatnot--wasn't as stunning as usual. But that just pushed the MC101s into focusing more on their assignment. Here is some of our group. We eventually drew 38 MC101s and guests. |
Before our visit to the Getty Center, there was the little matter of lunch. Some of us hung out at the lunch counter at Johnny Rockets in Beverly Hills for a while. |
Students occasionally ask if its possible to do too many field trips in Mass Comm 101. Generally, the answer is no. But all bets are off if we're at a lunch stop and the condiments begin to smile at you. |
| Some MC101s visited the Getty Gardens, themselves a work of art. Although the winter weather (and we're talking Los Angeles winter weather, not Minneapolis winter weather) kept the number of visitors down, the gardens were still worth a stroll. | |

Some MC101s worked on their assignments at this quiet spot in the gardens. |

By the end of the day, even the overcast skies looked like a work of art. |
| A whole different kind of art is the art of navigating Westside late-afternoon traffic. We got home--eventually--after another fine day of MC101 field trips. |
